Sunday, Sunday

So what to do on an overcast Sunday afternoon? A household of pretty tired people after a lovely night out for us with very special friends. Wonderful food, entertaining conversations, and just the right amount of Sauvignon Blanc to make sure that we really do only feel very tired today.  SW19 Junior has returned home from a sleepover with many of his friends who have all moved on to Secondary School this term, so they have had a wonderful time but very little sleep.  So how to while away a bit of time ... well obviously for me baking a cake is the best thing to do.  I've made this Apple Pudding Cake quite a few times before and will make it a lot more times in the future.  This really is totally delicious hot or warm from the oven with custard. But just as good, it tastes very good cold with a cup of tea.

Tomorrow I have to give my thoughts to baking a birthday cake or cakes to take to afternoon drinks on Tuesday to mark a milestone birthday for a friend.  Might be cupcakes, or might turn out to be a variation on a Victoria Sponge cake ... decisions, decisions ...

Getting the thumbs up treatment

Yesterday's attempt at granola went down very well indeed, I was expecting many comparisons to the school version accompanied with endless explanations as to why my home made version, lovingly mixed and baked,  just wasn't up to it ... but no!  It made part of SW19 Junior's breakfast with strawberry squirt fruit sauce that was in need of being used up and greek yoghurt.  I certainly loved it piled up lightly scattered on greek yoghurt and stewed apples.

So feeling rather pleased with myself I now need to turn my attention to making something today ... can I keep this up ... really ... making something every day ... well today I am going to attempt to make money!  Or at least the start of it ... and no, I don't still have my John Bull printing set tucked away upstairs ... now that would be an afternoon well spent!  No, I am decluttering, in an attempt to simplify life a little and not be surrounded by "stuff" ... what is it with stuff?  Why do we gather it?  Is there some deep seated instinct many of us have to hang on to things?  I am trying very hard to just have things I need and use.  So to get rid of the excess and hopefully sell some of it will definitely qualify as made at home by me!

Granola

So there we have it, my first attempt at granola.  I decided to make this as my son has decided his favourite dessert at school is fruit, yoghurt and granola ... I just wonder if my home made granola will be as good!  It's had the thumbs up for looks.

In the beginning...

Well here we go, my first ever blog.  I've created this blog, to record my efforts and achievements, making and baking, growing and harvesting. I suppose that means I really should just take myself off and make something to photograph and put here!
